'A nutter' - Sutton tears into reported Rangers transfer plans, predicts Gerrard aims

Former Celtic and England striker Chris Sutton has torn into Rangers’ reported plans to try and sign Kyle Lafferty this summer and believes that Steven Gerrard is planning on targeting the Scottish Premiership title for the upcoming season. $bp(“Brid_32517474”, {“id”:“13259”,“width”:“16”,“height”:“9”,“video”:“274134”}); Having finished third behind the Hoops and Aberdeen, Gerrard has taken his first foray into management at Ibrox, and has been busy in the transfer market with no less than 10 new signings. However, it seems as though the Liverpool legend is not quite finished with much talk over a potential return for Hearts striker Lafferty, the Daily Record claiming that the Gers are keen to see him make the move back to Glasgow, but Sutton has slated his potential arrival by suggesting he would upset the apple cart. Also predicting Gerrard’s plans for the upcoming season would be to win the title, he told the Daily Record: “The signing of Lafferty would be underwhelming and he’s not as good as Alfredo Morelos. I know Morelos is criticised for his finishing, but he’s still a handful. “Lafferty is a bit of a nutter at times and although he may turn out to be a good influence, why would you throw a bit of a timebomb into the dressing room at this stage when everything is going smoothly? “Lafferty is the type of player who has to play regularly and he has a better chance of doing that at Hearts than Rangers. “Deep down, he (Gerrard) and Gary McAllister will want to win the league – and believe they can do it.” Opinion Sutton is never one to mince his words but he does make a valid point over Lafferty’s proposed return to Ibrox this summer. Gerrard might have brought back Allan McGregor to start between the sticks but he is not the same sort of character that Lafferty is. The Hearts striker is known as a bit of a joker and light hearted, and while it is great he can keep spirits up in the serious game of football, there will also be times when Gerrard needs him to pt his head down and focus on the job in hand. The dressing room seems as good as it ever has been at Rangers and the threat of disrupting that with one player is a serious risk to be taking, especially with aspirations of trying to win the Premiership title. Lafferty might be a proven goal getter in Scotland’s top flight but with Morelos and Umar Sadiq in the first team, there is no guarantee of regular starts.
