Fringe Rangers man reveals talks with Gerrard have provided path to stay at Ibrox

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday is desperate to make an impact in the Rangers first-team squad after talks with Steven Gerrard helped him move on from the Pedro Caixinha era. Halliday found himself an outsider looking in when the Portuguese manager was in charge, sent on a loan to Azerbaijan that cast doubt on his long-term Rangers future. However, he’s hoping things are looking up as he fights to prove that he can be a viable option in the middle of the park for the former Liverpool man. As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: I had a different type of relationship with Pedro and my future wasn’t at the club and that’s why I went out on loan. I came back and played a few games towards the end of last season, but I feel involved now and I have had a few chats with the gaffer. It is really refreshing the way the coach staff approach training every single day – it is very structured and organised and it is enjoyable for the players. I think the real positive was coming back and being part of the club. We had some difficult times last year but we are in a much better position now. Halliday has made over 100 appearances for the club since joining in 2015 and clearly has a passion to perform for the side. There’s no doubt that questions about his abitlity to be a stand-out in the team have been valid, he has failed to impress on many a big occasion. However, as a squad option, we could likely do much worse and it’s heartening to hear that Gerrard is including him properly this summer. He’ll have a chance to impress against Wigan in a friendly at Ibrox today. For all his talk, it’s chances to impress like this he needs to take and we’re looking forward to seeing if he can put in a performance. Do you think Andy Halliday has a future at Ibrox?
