One of Umar Sadiq’s former teammates is hyping up the striker’s move to Rangers this summer, believing he could be an instant hit at Ibrox, just like he was at Dutch side NAC Breda. The Roma youngster has joined Steven Gerrard’s side on a season-long loan deal, providing competition for the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Josh Windass in attack. After a handful of appearances in Italy, he spent the second half of last season on loan at Eredeivisie outfit Breda and his teammate at the Dutch club, Gianluca Nijholt, believes he can replicate that successful spell in Scotland. As quoted by The Scottish Sun, he said: Umar is a really exciting player. The Rangers fans will have a lot of fun with him. His first game for Breda was against Heracles in February. Practically his first touch was to take a long pass, accelerate away, go round the goalkeeper and score. He was a hero to the Breda fans immediately and I’m certain he’ll be the same with Rangers. In 12 games with us he scored five goals and had one assist. We were near the bottom of the table the whole season but if he’d been with us from the start we’d have been much more comfortable. They are certainly exciting comments to read for supporters, who know that the club need more than Alfredo Morelos in attack if they are to compete for major honours this coming season. Fans will have to wait a bit longer to see Sadiq in action given he was not registered for the UEFA Europa League tie against FK Shkupi, but should progression be secured on Tuesday night, he should get minutes on the pitch against the Gers’ next opponents. Can he make an instant impact like he did in Eredivisie? Do you think Umar Sadiq will be a hit at Ibrox? Let us know in the comments below…
