The Hoops have brushed all aside on the domestic stage during the last two campaigns, picking up every piece of silverware possible under Brendan Rodgers, while the Gers have been slowly, and not sore surely, rebuilding after their financial capitulation. With Steven Gerrard at the helm, and a multitude of transfer swoops over the summer, there is a sense of renewed optimism among the Ibrox faithful – although they will know that toppling their Old Firm rivals is a task easier said than done. Quite frankly, even with their new recruits, defeating them over the league campaign might still be a step too far, but beating them in a one-off cup tie on the way to some silverware is much more an achievable feat. What they really need is someone who can flip the game on its head in the blink of an eye – something they currently lack – and they could have just that if they pull off a loan move for Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke. The Scottish Sun claim that a striker is still top of Gerrard’s priorities this summer and that a move for the Reds youngster is on the cards, having been used sparingly by Jurgen Klopp last season. The 20-year-old still managed 27 appearances across all competitions though, and with his rapid pace and powerful build, he could be the game changing talent the Gers have been screaming out for. With Premier League experience and the X-factor when it matters, Solanke’s arrival could be the missing piece to firing the club to a trophy next season, and it would be a massive statement of intent – that intent being to end Celtic’s reign as the powerhouse in Scotland.
