These comments suggest Rangers deal for exciting Steven Gerrard target is dead

Dominic Solanke appears to be intent on making an impression in the Liverpool first team this season, speaking to the club’s official media channels just days after reports that Steven Gerrard was still interested in signing him. The Scottish Sun reported on Saturday that Rangers were still pursuing the possibility of bringing the exciting Anfield talent to Glasgow on loan, after being linked with him earlier on this summer. In and around Jurgen Klopp’s first team squad, he hasn’t been getting as many regular starts as he needs to develop further as a top level footballer at 20 years old and a loan elsewhere appeared to make sense. However, far from seeking a temporary move this season, he seems focused on continuing his progress at the Reds after scoring his first goal for the club on the last day of last season against Brighton & Hove Albion. Speaking to his club’s official website, Solanke said: I’ve got my first goal now so obviously [I want to] build on that, get as many as I can this season and keep improving and help the team as much as I can. It always gives you a boost, bringing new players in to help the squad. We had a really good run last year so hopefully they can help us a lot this year. Intent on pushing on in his Liverpool career and excited about linking up with signings like Fabinho and Naby Keita, it seems it will take a lot to convince the young forward that his future lies away from Liverpool this summer. Rangers do have Alfredo Morelos and Umar Sadiq to call upon, but perhaps a third striker is needed in the long campaign for major honours, so fans will be hoping other targets are on the horizon.
