Ex-Rangers star Josh Windass reveals shock at joining Wigan just hours before Maribor Europa League clash


JOSH WINDASS was in shock after completing a £2.5million switch to Wigan. Windass was sold just hours before Rangers’ Europa League crunch with Maribor, while team-mate Declan John also left Ibrox for Swansea in a deal worth £800,000. He added: “I’ve played against the manager’s teams a few times when I was at Accrington. “I know a couple of the backroom staff here, so it was a no-brainer for me. “I know a couple of the lads too, having played against them so it’s a good squad. He added: “It’s a good first game to come into and hopefully we can get a good result and start my career off here strongly. “I’ll let people judge me for themselves but I’m quite quick and like to score goals and get myself in the team every week to improve.” Cook, who also landed former Gers striker Joe Garner from Ipswich, said: “Josh is an exciting player. “He has an eye for a goal and gives us further strength in attacking positions.” Meanwhile, Wales left back John returned to his homeland just days after Gers signed Croatian cap Borna Barisic.
