Some Rangers fans have turned to social media to voice their disappointment at seeing Scott Arfield dropped completely from the squad for the clash against St Mirren on Sunday. $bp(“Brid_32517474”, {“id”:“13259”,“width”:“16”,“height”:“9”,“video”:“274134”}); The Light Blues confirmed their starting XI via their official Twitter account for their second league game of the season, with manager Steven Gerrard choosing to make three changes from the side which beat Maribor in midweek, with debutant Borna Barisic, Ross McCrorie and Jamie Murphy coming in for James Tavernier, Daniel Candeias and Arfield, the former pair starting on the bench. ???? This is Futbol has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets: I find that strange, I know there’s a game on Thursday night but to drop arfield totally? https://t.co/kzPOhuVzsQ — AyeitsmeRog (@Forefather2003) August 12, 2018 good born a bear is getting his debut, dont understand why arfield isnt on the bench or starting he offers more than mccrorie https://t.co/MqVEa4lyE6 — Pedro M ???????? (@andyh1872) August 12, 2018 Hope arfield isn’t injured and just being rested as he’s not even on the bench — Kieran (@kieranmcl96) August 12, 2018 No Arfield ? — Martin Luther 1517. (@1517Luther) August 12, 2018 Arfield not even on the bench — Lee Williams (@Leewilliams89) August 12, 2018 No Arfield ???? — Shmandog ???????? (@Pandy297) August 12, 2018 Opinion It is easy to see why the Gers supporters are so concerned about Arfield’s abesence, for the summer signing has been one of the most important players to Gerrard and his team this season. He has proven his quality already and the experience he has from playing with Burnley in the Premier League has shone through, and he will no doubt be missed against St Mirren. However, it is early in the season and rotation, especially with the amount of games the Light Blues are playing every week, is crucial to ensure everyone stays fit as a fiddle. This could be Gerrard taking precautions, leaving him out with important fixtures on the immediate horizon, or perhaps there is something a little more serious which has seen him sit out Sunday’s clash. Either way, Gerrard needs to address the issue sooner rather than later, so as to avoid leaving the supporters in the dark over a fan favourite.
