Rangers boss Steven Gerrard says Alfredo Morelos’ red card moment was a one off and he insists that he’s in a good place

STEVEN GERRARD reckons Alfredo Morelos’ Pittodrie red mist was a one-off — and insists he’s in a good place. The Rangers striker won his appeal after being sent off for reacting to a barge by Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna. Gerrard is a big fan of MorelosPA:Press Association Morelos is available for today’s Ibrox clash with St Mirren and Gerrard insists he won’t fall into the trap again. He said: “I had a conversation with Alfredo after the Aberdeen game. I felt sorry for him because I felt he was harshly treated. “I also let him know the defenders will maybe target him and how he has to embrace that and enjoy it. “He should take it as a compliment that people are worried about his talent and what he can do to them. It needs to be the right edge he has. Morelos was ordered off at PittodriePA:Press Association “It can’t boil over and get to the stage where he lets his team-mates down. “He’s an important player for us now. He realises that and understands. He felt he let his team-mates down at Pittodrie. “His response has been fantastic. For the 12 minutes he was on the pitch he was at it and looking as if he was about to post a very good performance. “I said to him on the day we forget about it and move on. “He has bailed this team out many times with his goals and performances so the fact that the other lads put a shift in for him at Pittodrie, they maybe owed him it. “I’m more confident he can make up for the Aberdeen game and he started doing that on Thursday night against Maribor. Morelos bounced back with a goal against MariborPA:Press Association “I’m enjoying working with Alfredo. His attitude and application has been first class. “You can see him getting sharper and sharper as each game goes by. He’s in a really good place and enjoying his football. I can see him smiling. “He is still a young boy and will make mistakes — we’ve all made them — but I will give him the attention and support he needs to help him.” RELATED STORIES GOAL HERO Lassana Coulibaly says he wants to score big goals just like boss Steven Gerrard GOLDFISH BOWL Mark Warburton says Steven Gerrard must avoid ‘everyone hates us’ mentality 'We admire him’ Gerrard admits he would 'love’ to bring in Coulibaly on a permanent deal PUT A SOC IN IT Gers legend Gazza explains early Soccer AM exit - & laughs off drunk claims Euro blast Mitja Viler accuses Rangers star Alfredo Morelos of being a 'dirty’ player KRIS BOYD Kenny Miller listened to my concerns over Livingston job and then ignored me Rangers’ home league record was dire last season, losing seven times at Ibrox.
