KRIS BOYD warned Rangers hot-head Alfredo Morelos to stay calm — and revealed he almost landed a red card in a BOUNCE game. Former Gers frontman Boydy will go toe-to-toe with the Colombian when Kilmarnock host Steven Gerrard’s side in the Betfred Cup on Sunday. Kris Boyd says Alfredo Morelos needs to cool itKenny Ramsay - The Sun Glasgow Morelos is free to start after his sending-off at Aberdeen on the opening day of the league season was rescinded on appeal. But Boyd, who turns 35 on the eve of the tie, says Morelos must learn lessons and not be lured into on-field flashpoints. He said: “Pedro Caixinha said last year that Morelos is easily wound up. It’s something you have to deal with as a young player. “You’re playing for Rangers, you’re scoring goals, you’re a threat — teams will try to do something to put you off. He is a handful but that’s just the way he is. “I remember last year we were playing against them in a closed-doors game and the referee was going to send him off. Alfredo Morelos has scored three goals already this seasonWillie Vass “You can’t change him but if he’s getting involved in little incidents he doesn’t need to then that’s something he has to brush up on. “You need to pick and choose your moments to have a go back. It’s not the first time you’ve stood on somebody or somebody has nipped you. “The best way to shut somebody up is to score a goal. It might take until the 89th minute but it’s the best way. “Morelos has definitely got that in him. He keeps going to the last whistle but he needs to learn to ignore things because he is going to be a target for defenders. “If he does ignore defenders and concentrates on what he needs to do, I’m sure he can get close to that 20 or 25-goal target.” LAFF’S ON WAY Kyle Lafferty edges closer to Rangers move… and deal could be done in next 48 hours Morelos will lead the line for Gers in Slovenia tonight after opening the scoring in last week’s 3-1 Ibrox win over Maribor. Boyd added: “Morelos is definitely someone who brings something to Rangers. He can be a handful and the big thing is that he’s still only 22 and he can improve. “He has that knack of being in the right place at the right time and he can score goals. “I don’t think he’s one to take people on, he depends more on service from his team-mates. “He works really hard for the team and that’s something we’ll need to be aware of, along with his physicality.” RELATED STORIES ‘I LOVE THIS CLUB’ Graeme Murty breaks silence on shock Rangers return after first-team axe Laff’s on way Kyle Lafferty edging closer to Rangers move after further transfer talks Defence is key Murphy’s impressive Rangers stats emerge as star prepares for Euro sacrifice FRENCH CONNECTION Rangers have rejected a £3.75m bid for Alfredo Morelos from Bordeaux 'TRULY BIZARRE’ Lafferty video goes viral as YouTuber sends bizarre 'message’ to Rodgers 'First real test’ Kris Boyd reckons Rangers are a 'different animal’ under Steven Gerrard Meanwhile, Boyd is targeting victory on Sunday to push him closer to the dream of winning a major trophy with Killie. He said: “When you look back on your career, goals are great but you do want medals there. “To at least have that opportunity with Kilmarnock would be great. Last season, we felt we had a great opportunity to at least get to a final but it wasn’t to be. “It would mean everything. I have done it with Rangers but you are expected to win trophies at that club. To do it at Killie would be fantastic but it is very difficult. “When you look at it now, the big clubs are back and spending money. That’s difficult for the likes of Kilmarnock, Motherwell and St Johnstone to compete with.” Keep up to date with ALL the latest news, transfers and goals from Scottish football plus fixtures, results and live match commentary
