Rangers Make It Eight Undefeated For Gerrard With Further European Progression

With European football getting plenty of interest this week, Rangers took to the pitch earlier tonight to face NK Maribor in our own Europa League adventure. Holding a 3-1 advantage from the first leg at Ibrox, we were the favourites going into the game and having confirmed that Ryan Jack, Lassana Coulibaly and Scott Arfield were in contention for the tie, two of them came immediately back into Steven Gerrard’s plans. With results elsewhere this week and some mischief as a result, the last thing Rangers could afford to do was lose this one and we didn’t, securing a scoreless draw on the night, preserving our 3-1 advantage and booking our place in the Play-Off round and a tie against Russian side FC Ufa. Goalkeeper Allan McGregor deserves great praise though as he stopped a stoppage-time penalty to keep the clean sheet and with some irony, we now join Celtic in the next stage following their Champions League exit. Whilst it wasn’t that exciting a game, and the hosts clearly had opportunities, it was a professional showing from Rangers as we blunted their attempts to throw everything at us. Eight undefeated for Gerrard – can’t argue with that.
