Rangers hit with injury blow ahead of crucial clash with FK Shkupi – time to play 20-year-old?

Scott Arfield did not travel to Macedonia with the Rangers squad on Monday ahead of the UEFA Europa League qualifying second leg clash with FK Shkupi this evening, as reported by STV. The new signing was taken off midway through the second half in the first meeting between the two sides on Thursday evening. That problem appears to have now ensured he will not take part in what could be a difficult encounter tonight. With a two goal lead heading into the second leg, Rangers should have enough about them to progress through to the next round of qualifying, but tonight’s home side did show one or two glimpses of quality on Thursday and could present a far more formidable challenge. Arfield was one of the first arrivals at Ibrox this summer, part of a nine-signing spree in the wake of Steven Gerrard’s appointment. He looked bright in the heart of the Gers midfield last week and losing him is definitely a blow. Gerrard will likely turn to another new signing in his place, loanee Ovie Ejaria who has joined from Liverpool on a season-long deal. Although he is another central midfielder, he may not offer some of the defensive attributes that Arfield has. However, giving him a game this evening would go a long way to determining whether he is ready for more first team action in the early part of of this season. This is an opportunity for the 20-year-old to show he can make a big impact at the club this season. Who would you replace Scott Arfield with tonight? Let us know in the comments below…
