Rangers are exploring the opportunity of signing defender Curtis Tilt, with the bid for Jake Cooper in limbo at Millwall, according to The Scottish Sun. The paper say that Cooper remains Steven Gerrard’s number one defensive target this summer, but after offering £3m for the player last week have yet to hear if their bid is successful. The club have a list of defensive alternatives which is where Curtis Tilt comes in. Blackpool rate him at £1m and Rangers are said to want him should their move for Cooper fail. Tilt was a regular for the Seasiders last season, making 42 appearances and helping them to a 12th placed finish in League One. The 26-year-old has spent the majority of his career in English non-league football. Clearly Cooper is the preferred option here having been a massive part of a more talent Millwall side last term, but the club can’t afford to go far beyond the £3m already offered having made nine signings this summer already. Still, it’ll be pleasing for supporters to hear that the club have back-up options to their established targets, further proof that business is being done the right way at Ibrox right now. After the departure of Bruno Alves last week, bringing in another centre-back is clearly the priority for Gerrard and it’ll be interesting to see what deal the club can get done over the next four or five days.
