Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe has ruled out a move to Rangers this summer according to BBC Sport. What’s the story? The England international has made a name for himself in recent years as a lethal poacher in the Premier League, scoring an incredible 162 goals in the top flight. The 35-year-old scored four goals for Bournemouth last season and was linked with a move to the Ibrox this summer and it was rumoured that Steven Gerrard was keen on bringing the striker in on loan. However, Defoe has ruled out a move north of the border, dismissing the rumours as just ‘speculation’ according to the report. Always a long shot It may have seemed an attractive proposition for Gerrard to link up with his former England teammate but in truth the rumours never seemed to carry much weight. It was clear last year that Defoe doesn’t have the same potency as he once did and he is definitely nearing the end of his career. Gerrard is much better off putting his faith in the current options he has at Rangers rather than bringing in a 35-year-old who probably only has one season left in him.
