Rangers could let their Scottish midfielder Greg Docherty leave on loan and join Shrewsbury Town this summer. According to a report on the Sun (29/07, Page 63), as reported by Hitc, the Gers are looking to part ways with the Scottish talent on a temporary basis during this summer transfer period. The 21-year-old has not featured for the Teddy Bears in any of their three European matches so far this season. He moved to the Ibrox Stadium at the start of this year but only managed to feature in 14 matches for the Glaswegian giants in the second half of the last season and has three assists to his name. He has also represented his nation at various youth levels and could be in line to make his senior debut for the Scottish national team soon if he can fulfil his potential in the next few years. Docherty is in dire need of first-team opportunities after being left frustrated with lack of game time at the Ibrox so far. Hence, a temporary move to Shrewsbury Town could hand him an ideal platform to grow and develop his game so that he can come back as a far improved version of himself next year. Rangers boss Steven Gerrard clearly has not fancied playing him so far. which indicates that he won’t get enough chances to play for the Gers’ senior side if he stays at Glasgow beyond this summer. The Light Blues have managed to start their season off on the front foot winning three European matches on the spin while keeping three consecutive clean-sheets. However, Gerrard will be aware that he needs to make a few more adjustments to his team in the coming weeks before the transfer window draws to a close next month. The temporary departure of Docherty won’t have a direct effect on Gerrard’s senior team going into the new season as the Teddy Bears look to close the gap between themselves and their Scottish rivals at the top of the Premiership. The English boss can use the cap space generated by the exit of the 21-year-old midfield talent to strengthen other areas of his squad.
