According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers might use their defensive ace Lee Wallace as a part of the deal to lure Kyle Lafferty to Ibrox this summer. The former Rangers forward has recently been linked with the Scottish giants but his current club Hearts had already rejected a bid from the Gers. However, it looks like this battle is far from over for Steven Gerrard as he is ready to offer Wallace to get his man. The 30-year-old defender, who plies his trade as a left back, was not able to see much first-team action last season as he was just handed five outings in the Scottish Premiership. The player, however, has experience on his side as far as Scottish football is considered and is one of the highly rated defenders in the Premiership. A veteran of 188 matches for Rangers, Wallace has been one of the primary figures in their lineup since his arrival at the Ibrox in 2011. However, in the last season, he has been used as a sporadic option by the likes of Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty and from the current look of things, it does not seem that the situation is going to get any better for him under the tutelage of the former Liverpool ace. After the disappointment of the last campaign, Gerrard has been handed over the responsibility to bring back the glory days to the Ibrox. He looks determined and is busy with a major squad-overhaul this summer. Gerrard has already brought in a number of players to add strength to his squad and that might see him offload a few of the players, with Lee Wallace being one such player. Wallace started his career for the Hearts in 2004 and made 139 appearances for them. He played an important role in their lineup and his brilliant performances helped him seal a move to the Ibrox in the year 2011. If the move involving Lafferty materialises, it will see him go back to his boyhood club and it will, indeed, be a reunion to cherish for both the player and the club. Gerrard preferred to deploy a three-man backline in his side’s encounter against Shkupi in the UEFA Europa League qualifier round and it does not seem that he will deviate from that formation in the near future. This further diminishes Wallace’s importance in the Rangers lineup and it might be a good move on the part of all the parties involved to let the player leave. It will also help the Gers to strengthen their attack with the inclusion of Lafferty, thus bringing in competition for their main man up front in Alfredo Morelos.
